I haven't sold a Jose Carioca story yet, as I wrote a 30 page epic adventure story and two 8 - pagers, and they are too big for the Dutch books, and Egmont doesn't want them. I'm hoping that Dutch Disney will buy them, and divide them into pieces printed as a serial. They usually use 3 pages only.

I hope so. I really would like some more long adventures, specially from Carioca. It's about time for some more variety and originallity in the Dutch books. Some longer adventures from less known caracters where they can develop a bit would really interest me!

I used José with real hero powers. I made him an expert at the Brasilian self-defence art of capoeira. He needs it to fight jealous boyfriends of women he dates (or "steals"), and to protect himself from rough bill collectors.

In this story, he falls for a cute little woman (canary-type). He accompanies her deep into the Mato Grosso (of Brasil, adjacent to the Amazon), to rescue her father, who has been kidnapped by villains. He is mistaken for a god of an Indian tribe, and fights the villain in alliance with a legendary living walking plant monster. The two 8-pagers are about dating women, jealous boyfriends and rough bill collectors.

Has anyone here read the Paul Murry-illustrated Jose Carioca Sunday strips from the 1940s? I never have, but a user comment praising them in a Gladstone letter column many, many years ago really interested me in them. "WW2 skullduggery in the jungle with rapscallion hero Jose and a consumnate cast of evildoers," is how I remeber their being described. I have no idea of where these stories can be found. I'd love to see some of them.

I've read them. I like them very much. They are quite funny (if not a little predictable).

I wonder if Gemstone would consider re-printing them? (David Gerstein, are you listening?)

We've already had them reprinted in the Dutch Weekly twice in the last 50 years. I think I remember seeing them in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories in 1945-46 or so. They also reprinted the Panchito strips (1944?). Yes, it would be nice. Then, if I need to sell my original WDC & S to help keep a roof over my head, I won't have lost much of those books (having most of the strips in reprints of one kind or another).

Here is a (partially computer-generated) image created by me of a Shakespearean-style Barks Duck adventure.

Your web address above is just a note to us of where to find your image. Unfortunately it is NOT an active link. Furthermore, I believe you can upload that image on this thread, in a way that we could simply see it appear on your post.

ScrudeMcDude:

I think that if you precede your address (above) with:

[img] then address, then follow it with: [img/]

then your image will be uploaded. Please try that.

Sorry. I guess Imageshack works differently from the way Photobucket does. Please ask your question to the Moderator on the "About McDrake International" thread in "McDrake International Off Topic" section. The moderator will tell you how you can upload images with Imageshack.
