Heb je Cacou's report van vandaag gelezen? "It will appear later. The table linking storycdoes with scans is not updated every hour but every day or so."
Ik neem dat de scans dus, als vanzelf, alsnog zullen verschijnen. Of vergist hij zich hier?

Ik heb me er nooit zo druk over gemaakt. De scans stonden nog op mijn computer. En het was ook deels mijn fout.

Please no page numbers for normal weeklies, albums, and pocket books. That suggests we would also add page numbers to all existing indexes and I am NOT planning to do that.
Page numbers are only interesting for large (or special) books where it helps you to find an item back.

Barks's plot is heavily modified. Originally, the nephews urge Donald to cheat by using an emergency kit. The kit contains a fishline that the nephews can use to guide Donald like a kite. The fishline gets tangled in a whirling merry-go-round, making Donald so confused that he missed the finish.
This was replaced by a scene of angry eagles, borrowed from Barks's flying mailman in WDC 209.

As Jippes is remaking Barks-stories, he might want to know that 'Hang Gliders' never has been drawn as it should be.

Several of Barks' plots have been tampered with. And lots of everyone else's plots have been tampered with, as well.
When the script writer isn't the same as the plot writer, there will almost always be story differences between plot and script.

This particular plot has been heavily tampered. A complete sequence has been cut and replaced. See my description.

When a code is changed (for example a page number is added or removed) the connection with the accompanying scans gets eternally lost.
This problem has been confirmed by another user. The workaround he gave was to re-upload such scans. But this is hardly a solution, because as uploader I don't know which of my scans are lost. Also, the server is kept busy with re-uploading scans. And the old scans may be left behind orphanaged.
(I've understood that a regular maintainer can't connect the scans with the new code. Is this correct?)

This change is not a detail. It's a big change.
― sko vrijdag, 30 jul 2010, 11:21:56
The scene viewed isolated might be a big change, but the overall plot
wasn't changed, so it's not important enough for Inducks. Had the
writer changed it into a mice story for example the situation would be
different of course.
― sko status changed to no justification why it is important to take action vrijdag, 30 jul 2010, 11:22:43
― Daniel73 zaterdag, 31 jul 2010, 01:15:27
I think I DO give a justification why it is important to take action.
The plot would be less changed if it was just turned into a mouse story, because that's only a change of hero. (The plot would have worked the same for Mickey Mouse.)
So, I disagree with your decision. I miss a justification why no action is taken.
BTW. I find the reference to "A Guidebook" flattering, but if it was up to me, I'd rather integrate such a site into a system like Inducks. That was my goal. (Its software is made by an Induckser and is compatible.) I've also been thinking about using a wiki as interface, but I'm no programmer. I can only offer ideas. In short, I think background information on Barks (or Gottfredson, etc.) belongs in a system like Inducks anyway. A site like Guidebook can easily get lost, as has already happened with some sites.
― sko zaterdag, 31 jul 2010, 03:35:57
I do not agree to the importance of this "detail" but I just changed my
mind and added your comments anyway. I am amazed to read that you (of
all people consider an entire hero change less important. To me
that's a fundamental change, since the mice and ducks are utterly
different, not so much the way they look more like their behavior and
characteristics. Nevermind, the d.dbs file will be uploaded in a couple
of days, then you can see the comment. I change this post to "solved".

The ducks and mice are different, but this is one of the plots that works for both of them.
Also, it's very difficult to really put the characters of the ducks in one box. In Barks's plot of 'Hang Gliders', Donald vows to be honest during the contest. His nephews are the ones who want him to cheat. In other duck stories by Barks, it can be Donald who wants to cheat while the nephews are principally honest. (In the published version of 'Hang Gliders', the whole cheating business is erased.)
In story A, Donald can be just like Mickey. While in story B, Donald can be the opposite.

No. It's up to the person who change the entrycodes to also rename scans if there are attached scans.
>The workaround he gave was to re-upload such scans.
No. Users should just tell us whenever a scan "disappears". That's an error which should be fixed. The scans BTW are never removed from the server, only renamed to a specific place where they're not shown. There is always a backup.

Point is that I, as uploader, don't know which of my scans "disappear".
One of the maintainers told me that a normal maintainer who changes the entrycodes, cannot rename the scans by himself. Is this true or doesn't he know how to rename scans?
― Cacou dinsdag, 27 jul 2010, 04:42:40
>One of the maintainers told me that a normal maintainer who changes the

Yes he can. But it's a complicate technical process because of the thumbnails which should also be taken care of. It is usually manually done.
>Point is that I, as uploader, don't know which of my scans "disappear".
I considered that it was more the job of the Inducks team to correct those scans than of the user.
However I made a web page where one can check the list of orphan scans:
http://coa.inducks.org/maccount.php?scans=1
Point is, no scan is ever removed. A few are not linked with Inducks data due to human errors, however those are from time to time corrected. Since the user doesn't see them he get the impression they were removed which is wrong (but I can understand that feeling).
If some users could have a look at their own scans, that could help us - provided they understand in the first place what it's all about. But at least that page should give them a list of all scans they ever uploaded, and they won't have the impression that any was removed.

― Cacou woensdag, 28 jul 2010, 01:38:38
What do you mean by "getting it back"?
The scan is available on that page. And a copy is already on Inducks:
http://coa.inducks.org/issue.php?c=be/MMN%20225
>There's an option to mark the scan as "checked", but what does that

It means that you have checked that a copy of that scan is visible on the web pages (see above).
― Daniel73 maandag, 2 aug 2010, 01:35:55
The scan is visible. I remember it as a scan I uploaded twice. I've marked it as checked.
I see you added a category named 'Orphaned scans' under 'My account'. That's great. Thanks for the service!
